History of Lumbini

People planning to trek Lumbini may want to know its history. Lumbini was the birthplace of Siddharta Gautam, the crown prince of Lumbini. Despite being a prince, he was not interested in living life in luxury; instead, he wanted to know the truth about the world, people, and lives. After his marriage, he became restless, so he abandoned his life as a prince, wife, and newborn son and took shelter under the Bodhi Tree to meditate. After years of tough meditation, he gained enlightenment and became known as Buddha.

Since his birthplace was Lumbini, it also started getting equal recognition. On the third day of the Lumbini Tour, we will finally reach Lumbini. We will drive from Kathmandu to Lumbini by car or bus along the Prithvi Highway. The trip takes about 7 to 8 hours. Although it is a long drive, you will see beautiful landscapes, green valleys, rivers, and rice fields along the way. We will stop for lunch during the journey and spend the night in a hotel. Dinner will be provided, and you can rest afterward.

On the fourth day of the Lumbini Tour, we can finally explore Lumbini. From the Lumbini Hotel, we will drive to Titaurakot, which is 35 km west. This is the historical palace of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha in Kapilbasthu district. After this, they will return to the hotel for a warm lunch. We will then explore the Ashoka Pillar, Maya Devi temple, and the surrounding area. After returning to the hotel in Lumbini, enjoy dinner and spend the night there.

After completing the Lumbini Tour, it’s time to return to Kathmandu Valley. It takes about six to seven hours to reach Kathmandu. Along the way, the trekkers pass through majestic landscapes, lush jungles, and river banks. You will reach Kathmandu during the evening, where you will check in at your hotel and stay overnight.

If you are in Nepal and have additional days to spare, then the Mount Everest Flight Optional Tour is for you. The trekkers will wake up early and drive to the domestic airport, which takes about an hour, for their Mount Everest tour by plane. This is a beautiful flight over the Himalayas from Kathmandu Airport, either by plane or helicopter. You can choose a window seat to take pictures; it is safe, so you don’t need to worry. To spend more time exploring Mount Everest, you should take a helicopter. The round trip from Kathmandu will take over three hours, including a landing at 5,530 meters.

In summer, Lumbini experiences scorching temperatures up to 35°C during the day and around 25°C at night. The monsoon lasts from June to October, bringing heavy rainfall and potential flooding near water bodies. In winter, sunlight is scarce, with cold waves but no snowfall, especially during early mornings and late nights, as the temperature sometimes reaches up to 5°C. There are few transportation options during the Lumbini Tour. You can directly board a flight and land in Lumbini or travel by road, which is the most common and cheaper way. The flight is the fastest way of travel as it takes only 30 to 45 minutes. However, it is also equally expensive. You won’t land directly in Lumbini but instead in Bhairawa, from where it takes about 30 minutes while driving to reach

If you don’t have time then you can travel from Kathmandu to Lumbini via Flight and then take a private vehicle to tour around the famous landmarks of Lumbini. You can also choose a roadway transport, which can be either a bus, car, or jeep. Buses are cheaper than cars, and cars are cheaper than Jeep, but if you are traveling in a large group, then using a Jeep as a mode of transportation makes more sense.
