Overview Of Everest Base Camp Trek

If you’re looking for a thrilling trekking adventure and an unforgettable journey, the 12 days Everest Base Camp Trek could be the perfect choice for you. This high-altitude trek takes you to the base camp of Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak. It offers stunning views and demanding paths for both beginner and expert trekkers. Trekking to Everest Base Camp is one of the most well-known treks in the world. Unlike Everest, the base camp is in the Sagarmatha National Park of the Khumbu region.

The 12 Days Everest Base Camp Trek starts with a quick scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. EBC is not easy to reach, but it is also not very difficult. From Lukla, you’ll trek on rough trails for the next nine days, increasing elevation each day until you reach Everest Base Camp. During peak climbing season, you may see many colorful tents of mountaineers attempting to summit Mt. Everest at the base camp.

As you begin your trek through the forested temperature zone, you reach the sub-alpine area on the second day and make your way to the alpine zone. The 12-day trekking path to Everest Base Camp passes through fir, birch, and rhododendron. You’ll cross many suspension bridges hanging over the deep valleys, and as you trek through the foothills, you’ll pass by charming Sherpa villages. There are numerous stupas and monasteries scattered around the trail. From EBC Trek, you can see breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and many other stunning peaks.

Other Essential information

Everest Base Camp Trek Route

The 12-day Mount Everest Base Camp Trek begins in Lukla, an ancient Sherpa town. It traverses steep hills from the mountainside and Dudh Koshi River. The pathway to Phakding climbs uphill with some twists and turns. From here, the trek continues through Sagarmatha National Park and remote villages. After crossing the suspension bridge and passing Jorsale, the trail stops at Namche Bazaar. After acclimatizing in Namche, you hike Everest Hotel View to see Ama Dablam and Thamserku before the majestic Mount Everest.

From Namche Bazaar to Tengboche, the first few hours are uphill. After climbing the hill, the trail returns to level ground to Tengboche. Before going to Dingboche the next day, you visit the Tengboche monastery. After leaving the village, the trek takes 5 hrs to reach Lobuche. Going over loose rocks and boulders, steep switchbacks, and reaching Gorakshep, a seasonal rural settlement, is the signal push to Everest Base Camp. To reach Everest Base Camp, the trail follows the frozen glacier and debris-covered hills. From the base, you can see stunning views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam.

You will climb Kala Patthar’s rocky hills the next morning to see the sunrise. After that, you will go down the hills back to Gorakshep and then to Pheriche. The trail crosses the Imja River, climbs down the hills, and arrives at Namche Bazaar through a lush rhododendron and juniper forest. Then, you fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, where the trail ends.

Foods & Accommodation During 12 Days EBC Trek

Your body will require adequate carbohydrates and proteins because of the high altitude ascent. Food and delicacies from the local area are highly recommended because they are considerably more healthy. Dal Bhat, a Nepalese meal, is an excellent choice because it contains carbs and protein. Lentils, beans, and pulse soup will provide plenty of protein. The menu includes momo (dumplings), locally grown Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Corn Roti (bread), noodles, sandwiches, bakery products, tea, coffee, and more. Fresh vegetables, green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea, and garlic souple are highly recommended at higher elevations.

We will arrange for high-end accommodation and a teahouse that is within your budget. Our 12-day Everest Base Camp Trekking Itinerary includes a stay in budget-friendly lodges and hotels. The teahouse provides comfortable mattresses, pillows, electric blankets, hot and cold showers, and other amenities. Accommodation typically includes two single beds for two trekkers in a group, but a single room can be provided if necessary. Our accommodations provide pleasant views, comfortable mattresses, and attached bathrooms.

Everest Base Camp Trek 12 Days Difficulty

The Everest Base Camp trek is strenuous. You’ll face several challenges ranging from trekking long distances (130 kilometers) to the difficult altitude of 5,555 meters at Kalapatthar. One of the main difficulties of the EBC trek is the altitude. As you climb higher, the air gets thinner, which can lead to altitude sickness. You might feel dizzy, short of breath, or even cause headaches. Walking at your pace and giving your body time to adjust to the altitude is important.

The weather can also be challenging on the Everest Base Camp Trek. It can get very cold, especially at night, and the weather can change quickly. In the summer season, heavy rainfall can make trails wet and slippery. Snow, rain, and strong winds are common, making the trek even tougher.

Permits for Everest Base Camp Trekking

You must have two permits for our 12-day trek to the Everest Base Camp. Due to decentralization, the Everest Region has built a new authorization system. Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) Card will no longer be required. The authority directly collects the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. This authorization is only available in Lukla, not in Kathmandu. The Nepal Tourism Board’s Kathmandu headquarters can provide all additional permits.

You will also need a Sagarmatha National Park permit for trekking in the park’s stunning landscapes. You can get this permit at the Nepal Tourism Board’s office in Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu. Monjo is also where you may apply for a Sagarmatha National Park permit. The park’s entry is located in Monjo.

Trek 5/5

Experienced a once in a life time trek to base camp Everest with Simbir as our go to man. Simbir was our guide leader, who was very experienced in the mountains. He communicates well, enjoys a laugh, but most importantly makes sure your safe. He is all about having a good time, trekking at the groups pace and enjoying the experience. I will not do another trek unless it is with him knowing I can trust he has our best interest. Our trek was before he created this business however knowing now he is the owner I would recommend based on him knowing what it is like from Sherpa through to owner and understands what is important and what it takes to create a fun adventure.
