Pikey Peak Trek Trip Information

Difficulty of the Pikey Peak Trek

Pikey Peak is a moderately difficult trek in the Everest region of Nepal. Although the trek is off-beaten, the trek is manageable and has few challenging and steep inclines. Unlike other peak expeditions, the trek to Pikey doesn’t require special training, making it accessible for first-time trekkers. The duration of the trek is also shorter, and one can complete it within 7-9 days, making the trek smoothly achievable.

However, the difficulty level of the trek depends on the trekker’s fitness level, how much they are prepared, the trekking season, and the trekking trail. One of the significant factors to concern while trekking in Pikey Peak is its elevation. The peak stands at an impressive height of 4065m, where the altitude-related risk is a concern.

Thus, trekkers should acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, and listen to their bodies to reduce the risk. Likewise, some steep ascents and descents with 5-6 hours of walking also make the trek quite demanding. Similarly, unpredictable weather can also cause trouble while trekking. Yet, the trek is smooth if you are well-prepared and have a good fitness level.

How Do You Prepare for Pike Peak Trek?

Trekking to Pikey Peak doesn’t mean you just get into a vehicle, drop off at the trek’s starting point, and continue the trek. Preparing yourself properly is crucial if you want a successful and enjoyable trek with no disruption and problems to arise in between. Here is the key point you should consider to prepare yourself for the Pike Peak trek.

Physical Fitness

Although the Pikey Peak doesn’t demand for high fitness level, being in good is helpful. As the trek involves a steep ascend and descending section through varied landscapes for 5-6 hours for 4 days, your body gets exhausted without physical exercise. Thus, getting involved in physical fitness training before several months of adventure is helpful. Involve in cardio exercises like running and swimming to improve heart and lung strength, jump squats to develop power in your legs, walking lunges to build leg, hip, and core strength, and improve balance.

Mental Preparation

Being mentally fit is as important as being physically fit. Even though you are physically good, if you are not mentally prepared, there is a high chance of your trekking being unsuccessful. Thus, prepare yourself mentally, knowing that the trek can be tough at certain sections; you have to be okay with limited facilities and trekking trails that are not well-maintained. Likewise, you must have a positive and determined attitude and should set realistic expectations.

Permits

Pikey Peak Trek requires some mandatory permits to enter the region and complete the trek. Thus, obtaining all necessary permits before starting the journey is a way to prepare yourself properly. The Pikey Peak trek requires a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card and Sagarmatha National Park Permit. Yet, without worries, Action Nepal Treks provides you with those permits.

Gear and Equipment

While trekking in Nepal’s Himalayas, having proper gear and equipment is crucial. Thus, spending on good quality gear and equipment is a lifetime investment. Buy hiking boots, a sleeping bag, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and pants, a water bottle, a headlamp, medicines, personal miscellaneous, and a backpack. If you don’t want to buy them, you can also rent them in Kathmandu.

Travel Insurance

Whenever and wherever you are going to trek or involved in adventurous activities, one thing you must have is travel insurance. Thus, for the Pikey Peak expedition, consider buying comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, evacuation, and trip cancellation. Also, consider buying it from your own country as it would be easier for you.

When is the Best Time for Pikey Peak Trek?

Nepal has four distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Trekking in Pikey Peak is possible in each season; however, each season comes with a set of challenges and enjoyment. Thus, the best season depends on the trekker’s preference and what they expect from their trek. Here is the description of each season, including its benefits and drawbacks, that will help you determine the best time by considering this:

Spring

If you want to trek in Pikey Peak during one of the favorable times that offers pleasant weather and mild temperature, Spring is your ideal time. Starting in March and ending in May, Spring is one of the most preferred times to trek in the area due to its ideal trekking conditions. The blossom of rhododendrons during the Spring makes it the perfect time to explore nature and experience the grandeur of the Himalayas. Yet, due to favorable times, the crowd is higher on the trekking trail but not like on other popular routes like Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley.

Summer

Are you searching for when the days are sunny and daylight hours are longer, along with lush greenery? Summer season could be the best option for you. It is the time between April to June with the hottest temperature. However, it is also a monsoon season, coming with heavy rainfall. The trails are slippery, and the chances of landslides are higher during that time.

Autumn

Are you looking for another ideal season with pleasant and stable weather, mild temperature, favorable trekking conditions, and clear sky? Autumn is best for you, spanning from September to November. The season is another peak time to trek in Nepal, including at Pikey Peak. The season also offers a glimpse of Nepali culture as you can witness the Dashian festival in Kathmandu and the lower area of the Khumbu region. Yet, the season has many trekkers, making it unsuitable for those preferring a peaceful experience.

Winter

Are you willing to play with snow and don’t mind harsh weather? Go for the Pikey Peak trek during Winter. From December to February, Winter offers cold and crisp weather and crystal-clear mountain views on clear days. During this time, the trekking trails are quiet, and the trails are full of snow. However, the chances of avalanches are high during this time. Likewise, tea houses are also closed due to harsh weather conditions.

Dates & Prices

Our fixed departure dates and per-person pricing make it simple for both solo travelers and small groups to join the adventure. It’s a great chance to meet new people and share the experience with other trekkers. Just choose your preferred date, and we’ll take care of the rest.
