Ruby Valley Trek Overview

The Ruby Valley trek is an underrated hidden gem in Nepal’s north-central part. The trekking route is in the Ganesh Himal region, between Langtang National Park and Manaslu Conservation Area. Trekkers can enjoy scenic elegance and the cultural and traditional virtues of Nepal’s remote location.

The journey to Ruby Valley is short and rewarding. It takes through the less crowded, off-beaten path of Dhading district. The trek starts with a drive to Syabrubesi and passes through the settlements of Chawatar, Gatlang, Somdang, Tipling, Chalis Gaon, Borang, and Dhading Beshi. The journey offers a mix of thrill and natural beauty, from providing stunning vistas to crossing Pangsang Pass.

The Ruby Valley trek provides trekkers with an awe-inspiring view of towering peaks at each turn. View of Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Lirung(7,300m), Lamjung Himal(6,800m), and Manaslu(8,163m) are jaw-dropping throughout the trek. Likewise, the Ganga and Jamuna waterfalls and Parvati Kunda are other highlights of the trek. Furthermore, the Ruby Valley is home to diverse flora, fauna, and minerals. Even the valley was named after the rich deposits of rubies in the region.

Required Permits for Ruby Valley Trek

Why should you Trek to Ruby Valley?

Imagine setting foot into a hidden paradise far away from the hustle and bustle of the city area and where nature and culture blend into a perfect adventure. Ruby Valley is the destination waiting for you to explore. Here are some reasons why you should trek to Ruby Valley:

Less crowded

Unlike other popular trekking routes, including the Everest Base Camp trek and Annapurna Circuit, Ruby Valley is quiet, peaceful, and less crowded. Thus, the trek is a perfect choice for trekkers who love solitude and want to connect deeply with nature. You won’t find large crowds or busy trails on the trekking route. Instead, you’ll enjoy the untouched beauty of nature. The less crowded trail lets you immerse in the environment and soak in the beauty of the mountains, forests, skies, and even culture without distraction.

Cultural Immersion

Besides the trek, Ruby Valley is a journey through Nepal’s distinct culture. The valley is home to diverse ethnical communities, including Tamang, Ghurung, Ghale, and Dalit. Each group has unique traditions and cultures, making the trek culturally immersive. Walking through different villages, you’ll meet friendly locals who greet you and offer warm hospitality.

Treasure Hunt for Gems

True to its name, Ruby Valley is known for its deposits of gems and precious stones, such as rubies and crystals. Locals still believe that the valley holds treasures underneath its soil. Thus, for anyone preferring to hunt gems, the trek gives you the feeling of being an explorer on a treasure hunt. Although you can’t find ruby, the thrill of being in a place with such a unique history adds to the excitement of the journey.

Raw Natural Beauty

The journey to Ruby Valley trek takes you through stunning raw natural beauty. The valley offers the mesmerizing majesty of nature from snow-capped peaks, rolling hills, and peaceful forests. Throughout the trek, you’ll see rivers flowing in their waves, wildflowers adorning the trails, fresh air, and touring peaks in the backdrop, rewarding each step.

How Difficult is the Ruby Valley Treks?

The Ruby Valley Trek is one of the easiest adventures in Nepal’s Himalayas. It takes place mostly below 3000m, making it easy to navigate. Due to its less difficult nature, it is an ideal option for first-time trekkers and trekkers with a general fitness level.
However, no trekking adventure is smooth, with no challenges. Ruby Valley Trek also possesses some difficulty, which is, however, manageable. Trekkers should trek for 5-6 hours daily for around five days on an uneven trail through steep and rocky sections.

The trek also includes navigating Pangsang La, at 3,842m, where an altitude-related issue is a thing to concern. Furthermore, the trek doesn’t demand prior trekking experience or a high level of physical fitness, but it does demand good preparation and medical conditions. Likewise, being mentally fit is crucial to setting realistic goals. Furthermore, be ready to stay in an accommodation point with basic facilities and limited amenities.

When to go for Ruby Valley Trek

Ruby Valley is one of the easiest treks in Nepal, which trekkers can undertake throughout the year. Depending on the season, with the right gear and equipment, trekkers can smoothly complete the trek all year round. However, consider trekking in Spring and Autumn for the best trekking experience with fewer challenges and more thrill.

With a comfortable climate, Spring is one of the perfect times to trek in Nepal, including Ruby Valley. After the harsh winter season, Spring brings warm temperatures and dry trails, making the trekking favorable. The weather is also pleasant and mild, making the trail dry and suitable for trekking. Moreover, rhododendron blossoms make the trek enjoyable during Spring (from March to May).

Autumn is one of the peak seasons for trekking Ruby Valley, from September to November. It is a post-monsoon time with a dust-free, fresh, and favorable environment. The open skies, clear mountain views, and lush greenery make Autumn perfect for the Ruby Valley Trek. Moreover, the weather is pleasant, with mild and stable temperatures.

Summer/ Monsoon is also a pleasant time to trek Ruby Valley, with warm days and longer daylight. However, the season is also monsoon, bringing heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and infectious leeches. Moreover, trekking to WInter is also possible, but trekkers should be ready for harsh weather and temperatures below minus degrees Celsius.
