Lodge to Lodge

Pikey Peak Trek is a hidden gem, yet an incredible venture in the lower Everest region of Nepal. With its easy trail and short duration, along with the best views of Mt. Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary stated that the Pikey Peak trek is one of his favorite destinations. Thus, the trek is ideal for anyone looking for an easy, less crowded, and quick trek in the Himalayas. Likewise, the stunning landscape and comfortable trekking route make the trek unique from others in Nepal’s Himalayan.

One of the unique aspects of the Pikey Peak trek is that it doesn’t overwhelm the Kathmandu to Lukla flight to get to the starting point of the trek like other treks in the Solukhumbu region. The trek to Pikey Peak begins with a drive to DHap from Kathmandu, making it cost-effective. Located at a height of 4,068 meters, the Pikey Peak Summit offers an eye-appealing panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Thamserku, Nuptse, Pumori, and Kangtega.

11 Days Pikey Peak Trek Trip Information

Difficulty Level of Pikey Peak Trek

The difficulty level of Pikey Peak is moderate compared to other treks in the Everest region. No doubt, the trek passes through off-beaten trails, but the trekking route is manageable and has very few challenging or steep inclines. The trek doesn’t require any previous trekking experience or special training, making it even beginner-friendly.

However, some factors make the trek quite demanding but still manageable. The trek to Pikey Peak reaches up to 4,065m, where the issue of altitude sickness is a major concern. Thus, trekkers should acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, have nutritious food, and listen to their bodies throughout the journey. The unpredictable weather of the Himalayas adds to the difficulty of the trek. So, checking the weather forecast before starting the journey is recommended.

Likewise, it is an 11-day journey, and trekkers should walk 5-6 hours daily for about one week. Thus, trekking can be quite demanding for trekkers who are not used to walking in remote locations for long hours. So, being physically fit is also crucial. Moreover, the trek demands mental resilience. Trekkers should be mentally prepared to face some challenges. All in all, the trek is moderately challenging, but with proper preparation and knowledge, trekkers can complete the adventure smoothly.

Required Permits for Pikey Peak Trek

The necessary permits for Pikey Peak Trek depend on chosen route and itinerary. Some trekking itineraries include passing through the Sagarmatha National Park or the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, which require entrance permits. However, our Pikey Peak Trek itinerary takes place within the Solukhumbu region, requiring a Local Area permit and a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card.

The Local Area Permit is necessary to regulate the number of trekkers and ensure minimal environmental impact on the region. Trekkers can obtain the permit at the entry checkpoint. Similarly, TIMS is mandatory for each trekking destination in Nepal, including for Pikey Peak Trek. Trekkers can obtain the permit at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu, which costs NPR 1,000 for citizens of South Asian countries (SAARC) and NPR 2,000 for other citizens. However, Action Nepal Trek provides you with all the necessary permits for Pikey Peak Trek.

Food and Accommodation

Action Nepal Trek’s Pikey Peak trekking package covers 7 day’s accommodation and food for the journey. We provide you with the finest accommodation and food points depending on the location. Food will be served three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As higher, you ascend, except for fewer amenities and basic options. However, tea houses are the common accommodation and food point throughout the adventure.

The majority of the food options during the trek will be Nepali staples. Yet, continental, Italian, Tibetan, and Indian food options are available at the lower region’s lodge or tea house. Accommodation will be at a basic tea house in twin-sharing rooms with basic beds, blankets, and pillows. They are basic but comfortable for night stays after long hours of trekking. Bathrooms are also shared with squat toilets and are generally outside the room.

Best Season for Pikey Peak Trek

Spring from March to May and Autumn from September to November is best season for Pikey Peak Trek. The stable weather and the start of warmer days make it the best time for Pikey Peak Trek. The trails are full of rhododendrons blossom with distinct colors, including red, pink, and white, making the trail colorful and enchanting. The clear skies and mild temperature are other reasons that make Spring ideal for the trek to Pikey Peak Trek.

Autumn is another ideal time for Pikey Peak Trek that comes after heavy rainfall. The weather is superb, with minimal chances of rainfall. The skies are clear, and the Himalayas are eye-appealing during the time. The weather was pleasant and stable during the time, making for ideal trekking conditions. After the monsoon rains, the trails are dry and safe, reducing the risk of slipping or getting stuck in muddy paths. The landscapes are lush and green due to the previous month’s rain, making the trail scenic.

However, if you are planning to trek during Summer and Winter, you need to be careful and do much research, as the seasons are less favorable and come with challenges. Summer is also a monsoon season and brings heavy rainfall, making the trail slippery, leeches-infected trails, and chances of landslides. Winter comes with harsh weather and below minus degrees Celsius. Thus, considering all factors, Spring and Autumn are the best times for the Pikey Peak trek, and Winter and summer are less ideal.
