Island Peak Climb is one of the most popular trekking peaks within Sagarmatha National Park. In the eastern Himalayas, the Island Peak is in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Located at 6,189m/20,305 ft, it is one of the beginner-friendly climb peaks in the Solukhumbu district. Also known as Imja Tse, it is considered the training peak for some mountaineers, including Tenzing Norgay, before their historic climb.
The Island Peak was unnamed before 1952 AD; in 1953, British Mount Everest expedition members named it (Island Peak) as it seemed like an island in a sea of ice when Dingboche village witnessed it. The mountain was later renamed Imja Tse in 1983, but Island Peak remains popular. Moreover, the Peak is located on the top of the Chukung Glacier between Mount Lhotse and Ama Dablam and extends the southern ridge of Lhotse Shar, separated by a small col.
Climbing to Mera Peak is physically demanding but achievable with good physical fitness and moderate technical climbing knowledge. Throughout the journey, climbers develop mountaineering skills and gain enough climbing skills to overcome the Peak’s difficulty. However, reaching the summit of Island Peak provides a sense of accomplishment, as it provides a panorama of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Central, Lhotse Shar, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, and Mt. Makalu.
